Waterfront Outing - Historical Walk
On Monday 5 March the Grade 4's had a lovely outing at the Waterfront. We met at Nobel Square where there are statues of the four South Africans that have won Nobel Prizes: Albert Luthuli, Bishop Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela. Our walk took us up some stairs to see a time ball, beautiful old buildings that were once used as residences and also the well that used to provide water to Robben Island. We learnt that the Waterfront is on reclaimed land and that Prince Alfred (Queen Victoria's son) made a speech in front of a crowd of 20 000 people before the first load of rocks was dumped in order to begin the reclamation.
