Water Towers for Natural Science
Follow our journey as we learn how to make tubes and how to use struts to strengthen and build our water towers.
First, using only a square sheet of newspaper, we had to learn how to roll a tube that would be strong enough to hold a weight, such as a book. This was lots of fun!
Next, we had to roll enough tubes to make our water towers. This was an interesting activity, as some of us were quite good at it and others of us took a while to get the knack!
Once we had enough tubes, the building could begin. We started with our platforms and then attached the legs. they had to be strengthened with struts. This did not always work out as planned!

When our water towers were ready, each one had to pass the test: could it hold a litre of water for 10 seconds without collapsing? We had mixed results, but everyone has learnt lots of new skills and information through doing this exercise.
